Tasting notes

Deep garnet with almost black hues. The nose is restrained and fine: red fruit with a cool, spicy edge. The palate is dry and fresh, building gradually over well-balanced tannins, and the finish is long and layered.

Pairs with

  • Grilled ribeye or bife de chorizo
  • Grilled leg of lamb with rosemary
  • Roast duck
  • Mushroom risotto
  • Aged hard cheeses

Where it comes from

The Uco Valley is Mendoza's high-altitude wine zone, a band of vineyards running along the foot of the Andes. Tupungato sits at its northern end, and that is where Riglos farms Finca Las Divas, at 1,350 metres, close to the front range of the mountains. At this height the sun is strong but the nights are cold, which helps the grapes hold on to acidity and aroma. The soils were laid down by the Las Tunas river: sandy loam mixed with rounded stones, low in organic matter and free-draining, so the vines are pushed to root deep. The wine comes from just two plots, numbers 11 and 12, planted with a mass selection of Cabernet Franc taken from the estate itself and grafted onto 1103 Paulsen rootstock. The winemaker is José Hernández Toso.

Aged in French oak, in both barrels and larger foudres.
