SAUVIGNON BLANC TARDÍO 2017 - Taymente
Late-harvest sweet Sauvignon Blanc from Gualtallary, high in Mendoza's Andean foothills.
Gualtallary, Tupungato, Mendoza
Notas de cata
Bright yellow with golden glints. The nose is intense and honeyed, with stewed tropical fruit, ripe citrus and white blossom. Rich and mouth-coating yet fresh, its acidity keeps the sweetness in check, leading to a long, gentle finish.
Marida con
- Desserts with tropical fruit or citrus, such as lemon tart
- Apricot and peach desserts
- Blue cheeses
- On its own as an aperitif
De dónde viene
The family behind Huarpe learned its craft with sweet wines on the Rhine and Mosel, and the winery counts itself among the pioneers of the style in Argentina. Taymente Tardío comes from block 9 of their Finca Las Divas in Gualtallary, a district of Tupungato in Mendoza, at 1,350 metres above sea level. At that height, on the eastern foot of the Andes, sunny days give way to cold nights, which is what lets late-picked grapes hold on to their freshness. The soil was laid down by the Las Tunas river: sandy loam mixed with rounded stones, low in organic matter and free-draining, so the vines have to root deep. The result is a dessert wine that stays light rather than heavy, at around 9% alcohol.
Made from late-harvested grapes; the winery gives no details on ageing.
Servicio
Serve at 7 °C in a sherry-style glass.
