Where it comes from
District Blend is the line in which LUI Wines combines several parcels from a single district of the Valle de Uco, aiming for a wine that speaks of its place rather than of one grape; it was first released with the 2016 harvest. The Valle de Uco is a high valley at the foot of the Andes, south of the city of Mendoza, Argentina's leading wine region. The vineyards behind this wine lie above 1,200 metres: days are bright and sunny, nights are cold, and the grapes ripen fully while keeping their freshness. Malbec, Mendoza's signature grape, brings dark fruit and flesh, Merlot rounds out the blend and Cabernet Franc adds herbal, peppery lift. Winemaker Mauricio Vegetti Lui picks by hand and ages the wine in French oak.
Hand-harvested, 48 hours of cold pre-fermentation maceration, aged in new French oak barrels and, after blending, rested further in 500-litre barrels.
